This project grew out of a desire to help the neighbors of Harpin, Upson, Newsom, Wilson and Hollis to stay in touch.
It is also, we hope, going to help us coordinate our 2009 Block Party! As of 6/1/2009, it is scheduled to take place on 7/18/2009. Time is 2 p.m. till . . . probably just a bit after dark.
As plans unfold, details will be posted to the blog. Comments can be posted to let us know who can help with some of the materials and logistics, so that we can make this an enjoyable opportunity to spend a little time with the neighbors!
To join the discussion, simply post a comment, like this. By the way, you can always check in face to face!
ReplyDeleteIf this is the first time you have commented on a blog, just choose either Name/URL and enter your name in the name field and nothing in the URL field, or choose Anonymous, and sign your name at the end of your comment (by typing in the comment box).
ReplyDeleteA box with letters will appear after you click the Post Comment button. Type those letters (this is a security check, to make sure you are not a computer) and if you have typed the letters correctly, the comment will be accepted after you click the Finish button.
Invites almost ready to go out.

ReplyDeleteA little history about the Miles Farm. There was originally 100 acres 50 on Harpin Dr side and 50 on the Sheldon Dr side. The family had 14 children (10 boy,4 girls). Only 2 are still with us today. The Harpin Rd side was developed by Richard and Wilson Miles and Sheldon Dr was developed by Robert Miles. All the road names are the middle names of 5 of the Miles Brothers. Richard Harpin,Edward Upson,Horace Wilson,Robert Newsom, David Sheldon Miles. Richard Miles is 93 years old and lives in Southbury, Robert Miles is 87 years old and lives at 13 Wilson Dr.
ReplyDeleteBob, Thanks so much! This is great information! I had heard a little bit of the story, from Robert Miles himself. Did the family raise sheep? I have heard somewhere that there were some sheep pastures on this hill.
ReplyDeleteWow, I had never heard the story of the names of these streets. Pretty neat information... Thanks for sharing. We should track them down and they can come to the block party too. I bet they would love to see all the activity that is going on in the neighborhood (the kids running crazy, at least down at the end they are...)
ReplyDeleteI have received a few calls from some with responses of yes and a few with no. I did also get one with a maybe (depending on out-of-town visitors). We will have to get back together for one more meeting before the big day!
